Performance Task: Author Interview: How do your childhood experiences connect to your writing/books?

Your Assignment: We have just been informed that we have been given the special opportunity to invite an author to come to our class as a guest speaker. In order for us to maximize this fantastic experience we will need to research the three possible authors. While researching, you are going to focus on how the authors' writing is connected to his or her childhood. After researching the materials provided, complete the graphic organizer, citing evidence that the authors childhood influenced their writing. This needs to be done for each of the three authors. Once you complete the graphic organizer you are going to pick the the author that cites the most evidence that his or her writing was connected to his or her childhood. Which author did you chose and why? Remember to explain your choice using evidence! For the final piece of the the assignment you are going to take the role of a reporter and come up with three interview questions you would want to ask the author you picked, while explaining your reasoning/how you selected the questions to ask.
Steps you will be following:
1. Using the graphic organizer provided for you begin researching the three possible visitors (completing one at a time)
2. On your graphic organizer record childhood experiences that influenced the authors writing
3. Begin with Doug Wilhlem working next on Sandra and finishing with Roald Dahl
4. Once you have you have the graphic organizer complete, pick the author that cited the most evidence that his or her writing was connected their her childhood. Once you have your author write a letter to your teacher explaining who you feel would be the best speaker to come to our class. Use evidence (from your graphic organizer) to support your claim.
